The overwhelming response to OOTranslator continues even in second week. While it reached at #7 last week with about 9500+ downloads, this week it has reached #5 with more than 4000 downloads in 2 days! Total download count has crossed 13500. See details here.

For first timers, OOTranslator is a freely available add-on (extension) to popular office suite, OpenOffice.org which allows users to translate a document from one language to another! It does this magic by using the wonderful Translate tool developed by Google the great. OOTranslator is a free software and has been released under GNU GPL v3.

With such a unprecedented response, we are being pushed a little to resume development on next release much ahead than planned. We have already created a comprehensive wiki page here with a promise to release the source code soon. Work is underway to document all the suggestions and bugs founds. Soon we will be compiling a wishlist for next release. With so many downloading and using OOTranslator, there is a feeling of responsibility among us to cater to the expectations of newly formed and ever expanding community of OOTranslator.

Two most notable suggestions to be considered are

  1. Facility to “Remember” last used settings
  2. Introduction of “Detect Language” functionality

Keep your fingers crossed for the next one!

ss-sample-ontime081In a nutshell, OnTime helps public transport organizations do:

  • Schedule Creation
  • Schedule Maintenance
  • Schedule Publishing - in various formats
  • Schedule Integration with Google Transit

We believe that an accurate and updated schedule is the first and primary requirement of any public transport organization to be able to serve their commuters better. This not only helps them operate better thus resulting in increased productivity & customer satisfaction, but also opens doors for more advanced systems such as navigation and tracking.

OnTime is divided into a server component and a client component. Server compoenent resides on central machine and carries out data management operations as required by client. The client program resides on user machine and continously interacts with the server to carry out various operations.

The server component is written in PHP and PostgreSQL with PostGIS, while client is based on XUL. OpenLayers has been used as map toolkit.

Feedback, suggestions and comments awaited!
